KurdishActivism: A Growing Movement for Kurdish Rights and Solidarity

KurdishActivism was founded by Mazen Ali  in 2022, beginning on TikTok and later expanding to Instagram. The page was created with a clear mission: to raise awareness about the Kurdish people and their homeland, which remains divided and occupied by four states—Iran, Iraq, Syria, and Turkey. For decades, Kurds have faced systemic oppression and have often been ignored or misrepresented in mainstream media. Recognizing this gap, Mazen launched KurdishActivism to be a platform that gives the Kurdish people a voice—sharing their stories, struggles, and culture in Kurdish, English, and Dutch.

Mazen’s sense of justice and commitment to inclusion began at a young age. He has always been deeply sensitive to inequality and exclusion in everyday life, and naturally gravitated toward diversity and activism. These values became the foundation of KurdishActivism. From the outset, the platform resonated strongly with people. Kurdish audiences from across all regions of Kurdistan, as well as the diaspora, quickly embraced the page. It has since evolved into a central hub for Kurds and allies alike—offering timely updates, cultural insights, and educational content on Kurdish issues.

Today, KurdishActivism is more than just a social media page. It’s a vibrant movement—dedicated to advocacy, education, and building international solidarity. Whether you're Kurdish or an ally, KurdishActivism provides a space where the ongoing fight for Kurdish autonomy, freedom, and recognition is elevated and amplified. It bridges digital and cultural divides, bringing communities together around a shared commitment to justice and human rights.

Expanding Impact: From Awareness to Direct Action

In addition to spreading awareness, KurdishActivism has also taken tangible steps to support Kurdish communities on the ground. The platform launched a donation initiative that has seen remarkable success. Through this effort, KurdishActivism has been able to:

  • Provide financial support to Hiwa Hospital in Sulaimani, assisting patients in need.
  • Collaborate with the Ministry of Social Affairs in the Kurdistan Region.
  • Donate food and beverages to the Grand Mosque, helping community members share a warm meal during religious and social gatherings.

These initiatives reflect KurdishActivism’s broader commitment—not only to advocacy and awareness—but to direct, meaningful aid for Kurds in need.

Looking Ahead: Building a Formal Organization

KurdishActivism is now in the process of transitioning this grassroots effort into a formal, professional non-profit organization—drawing inspiration from established humanitarian organizations like UNICEF. With a growing team of 14 active members and a successful first official meeting, the initiative is laying the groundwork for a sustainable structure that can expand its reach and impact.

The vision is clear: to one day deliver support and solidarity to Kurds in all parts of Kurdistan, and to build a global platform that represents the Kurdish people with dignity, clarity, and strength.

KurdishActivism stands today as a testament to what one voice can spark—and how a community can grow around that spark to become a movement for change, compassion, and Kurdish empowerment.
